Bang & Olufsen Drops New York City Skyline-Inspired Beosound 1 Speaker
Bang & Olufsen has just released the Beosound 1 New York Edition, a special edition speaker inspired by New York City’s skyline. True to the shiny, metallic nature of New York City’s skyscrapers, the iconic B&O speaker sports a gradient finish that subtly moves from black to a natural aluminum – a CMF finish meticulously worked on in Bang & Olufsen’s 50-year-old aluminum factory in Struer, Denmark.
To create the unique surface appearance, extruded aluminum pieces “are milled, polished, and anodized—an electrochemical treatment that forms a durable oxide on the surface of the material.” Following the treatment, Bang & Olufsen’s surface specialists spend time fine-tuning the gradient effect. This production process is extremely labor-intensive, so only 1,200 pieces of the Beosound 1 New York Edition were made. As with all Beosound 1 editions, the portable speaker features 360-degree dispersion of sound thanks to its tower-like shape, as well as a built-in Google Assistant and a built-in rechargeable battery that can last for up to 12 hours of playtime.
The limited-edition Beosound 1 New York Edition is currently available for $2,000 USD at Bang & Olufsen stores and online. A docking station that allows the speaker to be moved around more easily is also available for $175 USD.
