Blessed with almost 1200 islands and stretches of white sand and pristine clear waters, the Maldives is one of the world’s top honeymoon vacation and romantic getaway spots. One of the reasons people visit is to enjoy the lavish opportunity to wine and dine at one of the very few undersea restaurants around – the spectacular Ithaa Undersea Restaurant.
Sitting about five metres below sea level, the restaurant is not only surrounded by a vibrant coral reef, it is an iconic structures built under water. It is part of the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island resort which occupies two private islands – Rangali and Rangalifinolhu, in miles of fine white sand beaches and unspoiled reefs. The resort also has six other restaurants apart from the Ithaa Undersea Restaurant.

Encased in a 12.5mm thick clear acrylic with transparent roof; the Ithaa Undersea Restaurant has a 270° panoramic underwater views of the Indian Ocean and seats up to 14 guests for lunch, dinner or cocktails. It is also used for private parties and weddings. To enter, visitors have to climb down a spiral staircase in a thatched pavilion at the end of a jetty and due to the limited capacity, reservations are advised to made in advance.

Dining at the Ithaa Undersea Restaurant is always a special experience. Over the years the cuisine in the restaurant has improved and they have settled for a blend of Maldivian cuisine with hints of Western European and Asian influences. Cocktails are served around 11am in the morning while a lighter, four-course set menu is offered for lunch. The full treat is reserved for dinner when a six-course dinner set-menu with emphasis on luxury ingredients is served. Dinner costs US$320 per person.
