Castell Son Claret Hotel

Fancy a five-star fairytale fantasy? Experience the magic of magnificent Mallorca, just a 20-minute drive away from Palma de Mallorca, the island’s gorgeous capital. At the bottom of the impressive Tramuntana Mountains, you can find a historic hideaway in a stunning setting. Here, you’ll be enchanted by its countryside charm & calmness. It’s an area of outstanding natural beauty, where guests can live at one with nature and feeling the warmth of the Mediterranean sun.

Every now and then you find a luxury hotel that is so perfect, that does the whole ‘hotel’ thing so bloody well, that is sort of spoils all the others. Five-star with all the trimmings, Castell Son Claret in the small village of Es Capdellà, Mallorca is one of those. From its Michelin-starred food, perfect pool, attention to detail and countryside chic rooms to its first-class service, knock-out spa and gorgeous 132ha grounds, this Mallorcan marvel is one of our favorite summer stays in Europe. It’s the perfect environment to just kick back and relax. Preferring to relish the peace, privacy and luxury, nature-loving foodies, die-hard romantics, lovers of really slick service and stressed-out CEOs who want to chill out and recharge their batteries all stay here.

Castell Son Claret opened as a luxury hotel in May 2013 after an affectionate restoration and reconstruction by its German owners Christine and Klaus-Michael Kühne. The look? Think of a mix of elegance, modernity, luxury and classicism. Outside, you can find beautifully manicured Moorish gardens with lovely walks and jogging paths. We loved the fragrances of the colorful flowers. It’s absolutely an exclusive retreat we want to live in.

Castell Son Claret hotel is a collection of 38 rooms & suites, either located in the main building or in one of the six annexes (former stables). Charming, comfortable, cozy and chic, the rooms & suites are all different in size and layout and feature fabulous big beds, plenty of dressing space, marble bathrooms, good lighting, coffee machines and Ren bath products. Some of the rooms & suites at this peaceful patch of paradise in Mallorca offer a terrace, small garden or private pool. There’s a pillow menu and the bathrobes are extremely soft. We stayed in a fantastic Deluxe Room including a great terrace plus table and two sunbeds. Very private, luxurious and relaxing, Castell Son Claret’s rooms & suites offer an invitation to switch off and simply dream.

When you’re on vacation, every meal counts. At Castell Son Claret hotel they take food very seriously. Restaurant Olivera, where they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, offers light Mediterranean dishes on the romantic terrace facing the swimming pool and mountain setting. Expect dishes such as White almond Gazpacho and scallop tartare with Granny Smith apple and summer truffle, Smoky glazed Wagyu Beef Rib, served with “Patatas Bravas” and Castell’s lemon tarte with blueberries. Its excellent Michelin-starred restaurant, Zaranda, is under the charge of Fernando Perez Arellano. Come here for a fine-dining concept on the highest level: fabulously fresh food created with only the very best products – mainly local produce as well as herbs & spices from the hotel’s garden -, served in the magical courtyard with truly impeccable service. One thing’s for sure: foodies will be in seventh heaven here.

After breakfast – a tasty array of homely baked breads, homemade yoghurts, fresh fruit, squeezed orange juice, hams, cheeses, pastries, ultra-delicious croissants, enough healthy – and a la carte options and even caviar -, spend some time around the ultra-chill hotel pool, explore the city of Palma de Mallorca or hit one of the beaches. In need of some serious pampering? Head to the Bellesa de Claret spa where relaxation and rejuvenation are the twin pillars. There’s an indoor pool, sauna and steam bath, perfect for during colder months of the year. When an active mood strikes you, go to the gym (sadly very small), show-off your Nadal skills on the tennis court, go biking, jogging or hiking, play golf on a high-standard golf course or attend one of the fitness classes.
